Guillemot Kayaks Petrel

This version of Nick Schade’s Petrel is scaled to 94% to fit Gabriela’s smaller frame. Final dimensions are 16′ in length, 19″ beam and  10″ depth. This boat doesn’t have a control device and since it hasn’t been on a scale yet, the weight remains a mystery.

The woods used are Western Red Cedar for the hull, deck and bulk heads, Yellow Cedar for recesses, coaming and bow and stern accents. Deck fittings and toggles are made of Yew wood.

Being a playboat the inside surface is finished with 6oz E-glass, the hull with 9oz S-glass and the deck with 4oz E-glass. We used 10′ and 8′ round Kayak Sport hatches and Yakima foot braces. The seat is custom fitted from 4″ thick minicell foam.
